EDI Survey Report 2024
About the survey
As part of our wider goal to improve the Equality, Diversity and Inclusivity (EDI) practices at both a Faculty and specialty level, we asked our members about their EDI experiences within Sport and Exercise Medicine (SEM).
This resulted in an anonymised survey to a proportion of our membership, providing us crucial insight into the widely different experiences people have within the SEM specialty. Using this insight, our EDI Committee, led by the Faculty’s Honorary Secretary Dr Pria Krishnasamy, have identified and began acting on key areas of improvement. This working plan of action encompasses different actions aiming to address both personal and systemic EDI issues across SEM.
Findings
From the survey, it is evident there are discriminative issues still present within SEM. As the governing body for Sport and Exercise Medicine in the UK, it is our aim that this report will highlight many of these issues faced by people working across the specialty. It is important we make clear that this report is only the beginning of our work, as we understand the importance of continued action to drive and support improvements made to SEM EDI practices.
Acknowledgements
We would also like to acknowledge and thank everyone involved for their efforts and contribution to this EDI survey and subsequent report.
Finally, we would like to thank all members who participated in this survey. Even in an anonymised format, it can be difficult to share experiences of this matter, therefore we would like to express a huge appreciation for your contribution to this ongoing project.
