Physical Activity and Exercise Medicine
East Midlands Clinical Senate Report
This publication provides background information, a case for change and recommendations to encourage more people to be more active more of the time. It is authored by Fellow of the Faculty and Past President Professor Mark Batt.
The focus of the report is physical activity and the benefits to be obtained through its use in prevention of ill health, in risk reduction and as an active treatment. The Council recommends the support of a number of existing national initiatives, the development of regional programmes and networks and specifically the commissioning of:
- Education programme for healthcare professionals
- Healthy workplace interventions
- Review of existing service provision
- Exercise medicine services
Clinical commissioners are encouraged to work in collaboration with Public Health colleagues to address the gaps in the current system.
